Emergency Alert Siren Goes Off Early In UK As Rishi Sunak's Government Tests Emergency Alert System; Netizens Say That ‘Scared The S**t Out Of Me’
The internet was set ablaze with memes after a siren was sounded on smartphones by  the UK Government as a test of an emergency alert system. The latest development has sparked a memefest and it has ultimately stirred up laughter amongst the citizens.

Several social media users mocked the Government's new emergency alert system test after the nationwide alarm sounded one minute before the scheduled time. The test was meant to emit a 10-second siren on millions of smartphones at 3 pm on Sunday.

As per the reports, many people did not receive the alert while some received the alert earlier than the expected time.

Soon Twitter was flooded with hilarious memes and funny jokes. Taking to Twitter, a user shared a funny picture and wrote, "Me when the alert came through at 2:59 pm and not 3pm", while a second user said, "The uk when there's an actual emergency alert because we never take stuff seriously". Many users joked that the early notification “scared the s**t out of me”.

Amid the unprecedented scare sparked by the early ringing of the phones, several users complained that they had not received the warning at all, including one who joked, “If there's a National emergency can someone let me know because the government don't think I deserve to be informed”.

The UK government conducted its first test of a new emergency alert service on Sunday, April 23, 2023. The officials hope to use it to alert people to issues such as severe flooding and fires.

The alarm, which sounded shortly before 3 pm, was accompanied by a message reading: “This is a test of Emergency Alerts, a new UK government service that will warn you if there's a life-threatening emergency nearby.”

Rishi Sunak's Government assured that the siren-like sound would be no more prominent than a mobile's loudest ringtone setting, and was meant to sound 4G and 5G devices unless they had been turned off or were in airplane mode.

However, looking at the tweets, the execution of the first-ever alert did not appear to instil faith in the public.
